Merry Christmas! (Snowy Owl)
I know that somewhere there will be a white Christmas this year. All the best of the Holiday Season to my Facebook and Flickr friends who tuned in and left comments and Faves in 2024

Dreaming of Snowy Owls
Other than a one day sighting on someone's roof down island I have not seen a snowy owl in the wild for over a decade. Sure would be nice to get a few shots of one or more of them out in the field this year. This particular image was taken during the great snowy owl eruption of 2012. We did pretty good with our 16MP DSLR cameras back in those days.

Snowy Owl Remake
Decided to give this image from 2012 a bit of an overhaul with some new technology. Hope I didn't get anybody too excited. A bit early for "Snowies" anyway. If they show up at all this year.

This snowy was keeping an eye on me as he glided by me while I stood on the dike at Boundary Bay.

This Time Last Year (Snowy Owl)
A portrait version of an image from last year when a rare snowy owl was visiting in Sidney B.C.

Pretty Lady (Snowy Owl)
My first snowy owl portrait in nearly 10 years and taken here on Vancouver Island too!

Snowy Owl Remake #2
Here is a second image of the same owl after it had flown past me and landed on a nearby log.

Young Snowy Preening (Archival Image)
I uploaded a copy of this image in 2013 but it was much smaller with quite a bit less detail. For some reason I always liked this one. The markings of the bird and the contrast of textures was what I always found interesting. I cropped it closer for a more intimate look. Don't know if we will be seeing them this year or not but it sure was great when the last irruption hit in 2012.

Snowy Owl In The Marsh 2012
Here is another image during "The Great Snowy Owl Irruption" of 2012. Probably could have got it a bit sharper but I didn't have the 600 IS2 in those days. Somewhat better eye contact in this shot as well.

Boundary Bay Snowy Owl 2012
Here is one from the 2012 archives. Can't imagine why I never posted it.

Nothing But a Memory
Here is an image that I failed to post from some time ago. Not much in the way of field owls yet this year. This shot taken at Boundary Bay during the "Great Snowy Owl Irruption" in the spring of 2012. Must have been a new arrival as the tips of the wing and tail feathers are still clean and not covered with Boundary Bay mud.

This snow with a bit of blood on its face after a fresh kill, roosts in the logs near the dike at Boundary Bay B.C.

Snowy Owl Environmental
A little something to break the monotony. Taken at Boundary Bay a gazillion years ago. A juvenile snowy owl flies low over the salt marsh during a hunt.
