Grosbeak in Shade (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Nice to see the grosbeaks back at Buttertubs Marsh again.

Bird on a Wire #2 (Rose-Breasted Grosbeak)
A leftover from the springtime. Here is a landscape version. Photographed in the Water Valley area just north of Cochrane Alberta.

Grosbeak Environmental (Rose-Breasted Grosbeak)
Here is another image of the rose-breasted grosbeak from a bit further away. Interesting markings and colors for sure.

Bird on a Wire (Rose-Breasted Grosbeak)
Found this guy on the side of the road while photographing the great grey owls in Southern Alberta. Detected him originally with the Merlin sound app. Works pretty good! A lifer for me as we just don't seem to get them in costal BC.

Black-Headed Bullet (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Another shot of when the black-headed grosbeak tucks his wings and glides. Like many birds of this type they have an undulating flight similar to that of a woodpecker.

Enos Lake Trail (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Found this guy on the Enos Lake trail a couple of days ago.

Wings Down Version (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Had some fun with the black-headed grosbeaks today at Morrell Bird Sanctuary in south Nanaimo.

Trying Something New (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Tried out a Canon R5 today. I could get used to it but my wife would hurt me real bad if I bought another camera body 🙂

Back View (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
In this image if you look closely you can see the grosbeak chowing down on what appears to be an ant. They were all over the hawthorn trees today.

Front View (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Lots of black-headed grosbeaks at Morrell Bird Sanctuary today in Nanaimo B.C.. Great light!

Black-Headed Grosbeak Portrait
Taken under the powerlines near Morrell Lake, Nanaimo B.C.

First Spring Grosbeak (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Always nice to see the first black-headed grosbeaks showing up in May.

First Grosbeak of 2019 (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Taken somewhere deep in the jungles of Linley Valley. These guys arrive just shortly after the first western tanagers. For those of us who can't afford a trip to Costa Rica they are kind of like the poor man's Trogon.

Hiding In The Hawthorne (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Lots of grosbeaks in the Hawthorne bushes along the power lines near Morrell Lake today.

Linley Valley Grosbeak (Black-Headed Grosbeak)
Tons of these guys hanging around the swamps in Linley Valley this year. Perhaps not quite as brightly colored as a western tanager but still nice.

Black-Headed Grosbeak
Nice to see the black-headed grosbeaks singing again in Linley Valley.

Female Black-Headed Grosbeak
Not as colorful as the male but quite pretty in her own way.

Grosbeak Environmental Image
Taken with the 100-400mm IS2.

Linley Valley Grosbeak
Lots more friendly singing black-headed grosbeaks at Linley Valley today. Hand held at 840mm.

Black-Headed Grosbeak #1
Lots of black-headed grosbeaks singing at Buttertubs Marsh today. Taken with the 100-400mm IS 2 hand held.

Black-Headed Grosbeak #2
The black-headed grosbeaks were busy singing and eating when I came by Buttertubs Marsh today. Lots of birds in general active in the cooler weather. Taken with the 100-400mm IS 2 hand held.

Green Caterpillar Time
The black-headed grosbeaks along with many other types of birds have been busy eating the most recent hatch of green caterpillars today at Buttertubs Marsh.

Buttertubs Black-Headed Grosbeak #2
It was like being in the jungle yesterday at Buttertubs Marsh with all of the different bird song. Just lovely there this time of year and so many photographic opportunities.

Buttertubs Black-Headed Grosbeak
Great shooting out at Buttertubs Marsh today. Kind of like a Disney Land for bird photographers. Both the Black-Headed and Evening Grosbeaks were out today. The Evening Grosbeaks were quite skittish so I will have to reserve an image of them for later.

Better Angle
Here is another Evening Grosbeak at a somewhat better angle and with a nicer background.

Evening Grosbeak
You see the odd one of these kicking around in the high country near Kamloops.
