Caught in Mid Air (Bald Eagle)
After chasing a gull to make it drop its catch a bald eagle snatches a chunk of fish meat in mid air.

Leftovers
A Bald Eagle escapes with the remnants of a filleted salmon today at Point Holmes near Comox. Took this one hand held from my car window. Gotta love that 100-400mm IS2!

Close Encounter (Bald Eagle)
My consolation prize today for not finding any short-eared owls out at the local estuary. Got fairly close to this immature bald eagle. Wondered if he may have been a rehabilitated bird that had been released as he did not seem to have any natural fear of man. His tail still has a way to go as regards being totally white so I would guess he is probably about 3-4 years old.

Close Encounter #2 (Bald Eagle)
A similar shot to the one I posted a few days ago. Really liked the head position on this particular image though for some reason. Flickr folks please left click for more detail.

Eagle Banking (Bald Eagle)
There are some people that might say that this is a "money shot" but for me it's all in the bank. 🙂

Watching From Above (Bald Eagle)
A mature bald eagle keeps a vigil on the river from a mossy tree branch.

Lots of great action down at the Big Qualicum River Estuary yesterday.

Riding The Wind (Bald Eagle)
The eagles were having a great time catching herring and riding the wind down at Piper's Lagoon today.

Togetherness (Bald Eagles)
Two adult bald eagles, probably a mated pair, enjoy the sunshine today at Uplands Park in Victoria B.C.

Estuary Eagle (Bald Eagle)
Photographed this handsome dude out at the Nanaimo River Estuary a couple of weeks ago.

Perched a Bit Closer (Bald Eagle)
While we were there photographing the tide started to go out and provided a nice place in the middle of the river for the eagle to roost closer to us. Not a lot going on in this shot but I really like the colors.

Pretty Perch (Bald Eagle)
Met a few friends at the Big Qualicum River Estuary today. Lots of birds to photograph. The eagles were busy too!

Immature Eagle (Bald Eagle)
An immature bald eagle competes with the other two older eagles for fish at the Big Qualicum River Estuary.

Fourth Year? (Bald Eagle)
We had examples of all of the different stages of eagles at the Qualicum Estuary yesterday. This particular eagle was a sub-adult. Probably about a forth year bird. Full plumage with white head and tail takes five years to grow in.

Breakfast Of Champions (Bald Eagle)
This photo taken a couple of weeks ago. In this image the male bald eagle feeds fish eggs (row) to his new eaglets on the nest.

Feeding Time! (Bald Eagle)
Lots of food in the nest today. Sorry about the light. Love the sun but it does pose problems with shadow even early in the morning. Notice the one eagle chick. It is only three days older than the smaller one but so much bigger. For highest detail please go to "VIew all sizes - Original".

King of The Golf Course
Photographed this guy last year under similar conditions in the same tree at the "Kings Links" golf course at Boundary Bay.

Chicken Eagle
Here is an image from this year's series of photos from Swy-a-lana Lagoon. The crab fishermen feed the resident eagle chicken normally used for their crab traps. You can get a good shot most evenings in the summer in pretty good light with a 70-200mm lens as in this picture. The problem is that even then sometimes he is too close and you miss out on some of the action.

Flying Fish
Almost didn't post this one as the light angle was all wrong. Still, thought that some of you would find it interesting and there is enough detail to see the essentials. Looks like he/she is bringing home a nice cod for the young ones.

Stern Gaze
I don't know why but eagles always look ticked off to me. Maybe he just didn't like me taking his picture. This is a crop taken from the opposite side of the Nanaimo River from where he was perched. Taken with the EOS1-D Mark4, 600 IS2 and 1.4X.

Nanaimo River Eagle
Lots of these guys in the Nanaimo River lately as there is in a lot of other rivers right now. Will shovel the driveway and install a microwave and then maybe there will be time to go out and get more images.

Eagle In Oak Tree
Decided to do a repost on this image as the last one looked a bit too yellow for my liking. Taken at the Nanaimo River Esturay December 29, 2013.

Local Celebrity
This eagle hangs around the public dock at Maffeo Sutton Park. He dines on a regular diet of chicken peices that are thrown to him by the crab fishermen. You don't require a large lens to get a good shot of him. This image taken by my 70 - 200mm with a 1.4X extender (July 8, 2013).
